River Ebble at Homington Meadows..

Game, Wild Fishery.

A three rod stretch situated off the road between the villages of Odstock and Homington the access is from a small gravel layby on the north side of the road. The returns and signing in book is situated just inside the field gate to the left. Walk straight across the meadow to find the fishery which is fenced and padlocked. Surrounded by water meadows on all sides this is the Chalke valley at its best. The fishery is almost a mile of meandering  Ebble thought to be the purest chalk stream in the catchment. The Ebble here is big enough to maintain a reasonable flow through the summer months. Although crossed by a footpath at one point the fishery is very secluded. It is maintained as wild but the fishing bank is regularly mown and trimmed the other left wild with plenty of cover. Trout and grayling are found in good numbers and the fishery returns good rod average figures, the water is generally crystal clear and so a stealthy approach is needed. Members are advised to practice catch and release to preserve the wild stock. The fishing is characterised by a series of faster runs and deeper pools with upstream nymph and dry fly the permitted methods through the trout and grayling seasons.
