Coarse Fishing Day Ticket – Hampshire Avon Downton.
White Horse Fishery.
Approximately 1 mile of the Hampshire Avon downstream of Downton, this stretch consists of shallow glides and occasional deeper holes, it was famous for big bags of Avon roach in the days of Capt Parker.
Nowadays the main species are chub that go to well over 5lb, dace, roach, perch, pike, barbel, eels.
A typical stretch of the middle Avon, it is challenging at times, but there are rewards for those willing to give it a go. All sorts of tactics work, but trotting and ledgering with large baits will help avoid the minnows that proliferate along the stretch.
Access is from Green Lane at the top of the fishery or South lane to enter mid-way down, there is plenty of on road parking around Downton.
Fishing times are dawn to dusk.
