The club has two habitat improvement schemes approved by the EA for the Avon at the above sites and work will be starting in September. We will not be closing the fisheries but you will be directed away from the working area and closed areas will be marked with red and white hazard tape. Please obey all instructions on the sites, there will be dangerous machinery in use. If safe to approach one of the team we are very happy to explain what is happening and why.

The West Amesbury project will be taking place between 3rd and 14th of September. The bank above Ham Hatches, a stretch of about 200 metres, is being altered to include an outer walkway as on the older works above. This will narrow the stream, provide important back water areas, stop the ongoing erosion on that bank whilst preserving the extensive vole habitat on the existing bank.
Whilst machine movements are taking place you will be directed away from the area, access to the water above and the top wading stretch can be achieved through the football field ‘ out of the small gate in to the meadow and round the top of the bank side woods.

The Countess /Ratfyn scheme will be taking place from the 24th September to the end of the month. The Ratfyn bank will be extensively reworked to be reopened as a trout fishery for 2019 season, there will be better angler access to the water, reduced tree cover, amendments to the existing in stream work and improved cover, flow and character. The same cautions apply as above.

Both these schemes build on previous river enhancement works in those areas and extend the improvement work done by the club, partners, owners, other clubs and syndicates, Wild trout Trust and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. A very significant stretch of the river under our control from Moor Hatches through to Bulford Bridge and beyond will have received investment and work.

If members want to help with the work the team will be there Monday to Friday from about 8.00am, let the office know if you are interested.
