The auction is the WTTs biggest fundraising event and provides vital funds, enabling them to deliver practical advice and habitat improvement projects for the benefit of wild trout and all wildlife that shares the places where they live.
The auction has over 300 lots, mainly fishing around the UK,  but also flies, hand made rods and, this year, some especially lovely art.
The bidding takes place on eBay and by post.

Covid-19 Third Lockdown Jaunary 2021

SADAC  Covid-19. Third Lockdown. January 2021

After initially being told all fishing was to cease on January 6th and accordingly closing our waters the Angling Trust have now had clarity from Government that fishing will be permitted from January 8th as one of the forms of daily exercise. This is under the strict rules applying to exercise and full information can be found on the Angling Trust website or Facebook page and in the Govt. publications.

Coarse Lake Update

Dear members,

Well, it is about time I gave everyone an update on what we have been up to with regards to our fisheries this year, I took over in August as the Coarse Vice Chairman as we were in the middle of several projects that we needed to complete.

I will start with the City stretches of the rivers, these saw a few well attended works parties help clear out a lot of the swims and maintain some of the fences and bridges ready for the winter match season, thank you again all who took part. The results in the first few matches have been very promising with some large roach caught from close to the city. We are starting our own Coarse Fish Spawning and Recruitment Project (CFSARP) in the new year, with the support of the original Avon Roach Project to improve natural recruitment of coarse fish fry in the City stretches of our rivers.

The future is looking good for the middle stretches of the Avon with several specimen fish being reported, double figure barbel, 2lb roach, big pike and chub to well over 5lb.
We will be improving access and have a robust maintenance plan that will be implemented over the next 12 months for White Horse, Folds and Burgate stretches.

This year at Petersfinger we have:
Installed two different new aeration Systems in both Hands and Clarks Lake.
Cut lilies and removed excessive waste.
Pursued aggressive tree work to open the lakes up to wind and reduce the amount of leaf litter in the future.
Executed netting surveys and started stock balancing on Clarks and Hands lakes

Air stone and Force 7 aerator in action

With regards the netting and stock balancing, we are concerned about the amount […]

Virtual Game Meeting

For obvious reasons in this very strange pandemic year our planed Annual Game Meeting was unable to take place.
As advised to the membership by email we held a webinar covering the majority of topics with Andreas Topintzis the Club Manager and John Stoddart our Game Vice Chair in front of the camera on 11th November. There was a good attendance but with all these things many members were unable to join the event.
We managed to record the webinar and this is now available to watch via YouTube.

UK: Weed Cutting River Test 2021

River Test Weed Cutting Dates 2021

River Test Weed cutting dates 2021.

Dates for the River Test weed cutting periods have been agreed by the Environment Agency and the Test and Itchen Association for 2021.
Cutting will start at the top of the river  with slight changes as we move further down the system.

WINTER OPEN PERIOD

Weed may be cut any time after 14 October 2020 until 26 April 2021. Owners are asked to ensure that cutting is completed before trout spawning begins and that bank side vegetation is not allowed to fall in the river.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Cutting should start at the beginning of the dates allowed. Please inform your downstream neighbour when you have finished clearing off and of any subsequent problems. Regular communication with your neighbours upstream and downstream is essential to ensure trouble-free weed cutting and clearing down. Weed cutting boats should finish one day before the end of each cutting period.

The Environment Agency has granted consent for the general cutting of weed on the River Test, and approved the dates overleaf. In the event of low river flows (and high water temperatures) the Environment Agency may request that weed cuts are postponed or reduced in extent in order to maintain water levels and quality. Cutting of weed outside of the authorised dates, without the Agency’s consent, constitutes an offence under Section 90 of the Water Resources Act 1991

Grass cuttings and bank trimmings must NEVER be put into the river. Depositing any form of solid waste in the river, including bankside vegetation, is strictly prohibited under Sections 85 and 90 of the Water Resources Act 1991

Riparian owners are asked to carry out bank maintenance and other works likely to cause displacement […]

Anglers Against Pollution

The waters we fish are in crisis. Pollution is the main cause with every water body in England assessed against the Water Framework standard failing. And things are becoming worse, not better. Our Government has repeatedly said that the UK wishes to be a world leader in conserving both the environment and biodiversity but has frequently failed to back this up with action. Enough is enough!

The Angling Trust has been campaigning for cleaner waterways since 1948 and through our new campaign, Anglers Against Pollution, seeks to give anglers a voice in the fight for a better future for our environment by holding the Government to account for its promises, its actions and its responsibilities.

Our waterways are suffocating from all forms of pollution – from agricultural runoff to plastics, chemical pesticides to raw sewage – time is no longer a luxury we can afford in the fight for a cleaner tomorrow for our environment, our fish and our sport.

By joining Anglers Against Pollution, you will add your voice to our long-standing battle to hold the Government to account in our mission for healthier waterways.

Petersfinger Lake Improvements

The Club have been extremely busy since the Government has eased lockdown across the country and one of the projects is associated with a new Aeration System for both Hands and Clarks lakes. Yes, there was an aeration system present but after numerous tests at the lakes whilst they were closed – silt surveys – monthly – temperature checks – dissolved oxygen and  chemical analysis checks the results did not really show any signs of improvements. So, a group on the committee set to and considered what can we do to improve the lakes habitat. Milfoil weed was introduced and there is now evidence of prolific growth in Clarks lake. Siltex was also introduced into Clarks and the first of the Barley straw introductions has already been publicised. And we are now implementing the new aeration system which will be incredibly quiet and very efficient working from the lake bed up instead of just aerating the surface area. The action of these aerators should improve the aquatic environment of the lakes. For those that may consider this to be wasting money – during the extreme stifling weather last week many local fisheries were experiencing massive oxygen crashes on their lakes and sadly for some Clubs numbers of fish perished. Many of these Clubs were asking the help of the E.A. and others scrambling to get some form of aeration into their lakes. So, the importance of these additions to Club lakes in these times of climate change is certainly evident. Please see the plans of the aeration system and two of our new Force 7 units in place.
